I knew PG was special the first time I saw her. She was sent to me by Barbara Sheffield at 8 weeks old and she certainly was everything Barbara said she was….and more! When I picked her up at the airport, she sprang from her crate and right into my heart.
Her show career began on a cool January morning when she took a Best in Match with my friend’s young daughter, Jennifer Morasco. PG matched Jennifer’s enthusiasm every step of the way and they flew around the ring exuding confidence and youthful exuberance.
At 7 months, she took her 1st 4 point major, followed by a Best Puppy in Specialty Show at Potomac Valley Golden Retriever Club and then another 4 point major. She took 1st place in the 12-18 class at the 1998 National at just two days over one year of age. The judge, David Sturtz also used her in a discussion with provisional judges at the National, pointing out her assets and “challenges”. At Lenape she went Reserve to her housemate, Natalie and finished her show career with a JAM at Westminster.
I am most proud of PG’s mothering abilities. In addition to her own litters, she served as a surrogate to an orphaned litter of 14 (simultaneously nursing her own litter of 4) and again to a litter of 8.
She is and always will be my heart dog!
